Battery Regulation

A step towards a circular economy

Since 17 August 2024, the new European Battery Regulation has been in force. This legislation focuses on the collection, reuse and recycling of batteries. It supports the transition towards a circular economy, improves raw material security and strengthens energy resilience. The regulation promotes batteries with a lower carbon footprint and fewer hazardous substances, reducing dependence on raw materials sourced outside the European Union.

Starting in 2025, phased requirements will be introduced regarding the carbon footprint of rechargeable batteries. From 2027, consumers must be able to easily replace batteries in electronic devices. This means that we will gradually adapt our assortment to ensure compliance with the new legislation by 2027.

The implementation of this regulation will take place within the individual EU member states and will be further specified through additional legislation and guidance.
