Safe toys
Our commitment to safety standards
The NEN (Royal Netherlands Standardization Institute) is an organization that brings together stakeholders to establish agreements and standards. These agreements are formalized in standards and guidelines, which are developed within national and international standardization committees.
Several times a year, NEN organizes committee meetings. Toi-Toys actively participates in these meetings and recently attended a session of the NEN standards committee to discuss updates to the EN71 safety standards. This is an important step in staying aligned with evolving safety requirements.
EN71 is the European safety standard that ensures toys sold within the European Union are safe for children to use. These standards cover everything from mechanical safety and flammability to chemical substances and labeling requirements. While these regulations may sound highly technical, their ultimate goal is simple: ensuring children can play safely. What makes our involvement particularly important is that we do not only follow the EN71 standards, but also contribute to their development. As part of the national standards committee, we participate in discussions and help shape future regulations. This allows us to share our practical experience, raise concerns at an early stage and remain prepared for future developments.
Updated versions of several EN71 standards are currently being developed, featuring clearer language and improved testing methods. Staying involved enables us to ensure that the toys we develop not only comply with today's requirements but are also prepared for the standards of tomorrow.
