Microplastics

EU takes action against microplastics

The European Commission has announced that Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/2055, also known as "the microplastics restriction", has come into force since October 17, 2023. This regulation restricts the use of synthetic polymer particles, including plastic glitter, to reduce harmful environmental impacts.

The restriction targets specific types of glitter and applications, such as art, toys and textiles. The ban applies to non-biodegradable, insoluble glitter. Biodegradable or soluble glitter and products already on the market before October 17, 2023 are excluded from the restriction. For Toi-Toys' range, loose glitter and glitter in slime will disappear from our range. Glitter incorporated in a solid substance, such as in paint, glue and other solid objects will continue to be allowed as well as glitter attached to the surface of toys.

The European Commission is working on a comprehensive document to inform stakeholders on the application of the microplastics restriction. Untill then, current views (especially on plastic glitter), will be shared in this questionnaire.

Entering into the "microplastics restriction" will affect Toi-Toys' product range. In the coming period, we will adjust our product range to comply with the new legislation. For all items, the stock already available may be sold without restrictions.
